STD Testing – FAQ

Why should I get STD testing?
Each year over 19 million new cases of STD infections are reported by the CDC. Since most of these infections do not exhibit any signs or symptoms, you or your partner may be infected and not even know it until the later stages of the disease develops, which can cause serious and life threatening conditions.

Why go to an STD testing center?
Testing centers are FDA approved, federal and state certified, and capable of performing the same tests offered through a hospital or doctor’s office.  By going directly to the same labs that doctors and hospitals use, you can save time and money.

What if I am infected?  What happens next?
If any of your tests come back positive, your counselor will recommend the appropriate next steps to ensure that you get the treatment you need.  For certain STDs, one of our physicians will be able to provide a medical prescription in order to take care of the infection.  Please note that specific treatment decisions are solely up to the doctor’s discretion in order to ensure that all appropriate steps are taken.

Is an STD testing appointment necessary?
STD Testing Services can get you into a lab within minutes of setting up your test on the phone.  Our counselors will help you assess your level of risk and recommend the best tests given your situation.  By the time that you get off of the phone, your test requisitions will be ready and waiting at the laboratory.

How confidential is STD testing?
Confidentiality is one of the primary benefits of private STD testing.  Being tested by your doctor or at a state or county clinic will require you to provide personal information and your testing will become a part of your permanent medical record.  When you obtain private STD testing through us, YOU and only YOU know the results of your test or even the fact that you were tested at all.  Of course, if you would like to receive an electronic copy of your testing to share with a partner, we are more than happy to provide that to you.

How long does it take to get results?
Most test results come back within twenry four hours. By sending you to our laboratories directly, you will receive your results back much faster than going to a doctor.  It is important to note, however, that some of the more advanced testing can take from one to five business days for results.  Your counselor will be able to answer any specific questions you might have about the timing of your results.

Do you have STD testing centers close to me?
Yes! With over 3,500 laboratories nationwide, you can rest assured that there is a testing center within minutes of you. Major Cities in our network include: New York, Austin, St. Louis, Chicago, Las Vegas, Denver, Los Angeles,  San Antonio, Houston, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Phoenix, San Diego, Dallas, Detroit, San Jose, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Jacksonville, Columbus, , Memphis, Milwaukee, Boston, Charlotte, El Paso, Seattle, Fort Worth,  Nashville, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Portland, Seattle, and more!

Why would I choose confidential STD testing over seeing my family doctor?
Getting tested by your doctor typically requires three separate visits:  One to your doctor in order to determine if they think you should get tested, one to the laboratory in order to get the testing, and another trip back to your doctor to go over the results.  By testing directly with us, you will save time and money.  You can get tested today, and know your results as early as tomorrow!

Do I need to do anything special before getting STD tested?
No.  The only thing to keep in mind is to try and not urinate one hour prior to any tests that requre urine, such as when testing for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, or any other bacterial infections.
