CBC Testing (also known as a Complete Blood Cell Count) uncovers important data about the types and numbers of cells located in the blood (especially platelets, white blood cells, and red blood cells). A CBC is a useful screening tool used to take a picture of a person’s overall health. It can help determine disorders such as infection and anemia, as well as others. Please ask an STD counselor for more information regarding a CBC test. A CBC test normally includes:
- Red blood cell (RBC) count
- Platelet (thrombocyte) count
- White blood cell (WBC, leukocyte) count
- Hemoglobin (Hgb)
- White blood cell types (WBC differential)
- Hematocrit (HCT, packed cell volume, PCV)
- Red blood cell indices
